This deck is best suited for questions that involve emotional healing or for guidance in bringing positive change into one's life. Each card promotes a healing for some aspect in one's life and can be used effectively to bring about positive change. Fifty-two cards make up this pretty deck, which is devoted to flowers and how they can be used for guidance, readings, meditation, and healing. The Little White Book (LWB) which accompanies the cards offer an interpretation for both upright and reversed meanings. Also included are Tarot correspondences for each card, which allows a Tarot reader to expand on a reading with wisdom from the Tarot. A separate book is also available for further insights into this deck, and I recommend the book in order to get the most from these cards.
At the top of each card is a Keyword meaning, and listed at the bottom is the actual number and name of the card -- with the exception of the Guidance cards that do not include a number.
The art is very attractive in this 52-card deck. There are similarities in this deck to the Tarot, but the Flower Speaks deck is not actually a Tarot deck. It does work in a very similar way, in that it provides meaningful guidance, insight, and advice, but this is an oracle card set rather than Tarot. The art was done in soft blended hues with colored pencils.
The deck contains seven card groups which include the Flower Arcana, the four suits elements, energy cards, and guidance cards. More information which comes from the LWB on these groups is as follows:
Flower Arcana
The Flower Arcana is made up of flowers whose energies reflect the Major Arcana archetypes in Tarot. This group contains cards 1 - 21."
Fire Flowers/Wands
"Fire Flowers relate symbolically to spirit and the element of fire. They are known for their vibrant color, prickles, thorns and blistering juices. They represent man's individuality and the challenges of his ego. They teach about the importance of sacrifice." This group contains cards 22 - 25.
Water Flowers/Cups
Water Flowers symbolize the soul force and the feeling realm and relate to the element of water. They are known for their capacity to hold moisture. They symbolize nurturing, protection, and the origins of life. They teach the importance of building boundaries to contain our flow. This group contains cards 26 - 29.
Air Flowers/Swords
Air Flowers symbolize the thinking realm and relate to the etheric body and the element of air. Their flowers are delicate and translucent while the leaves are feather with a tendency to comb or fan the air. Through the air we are all connected with one another. Air flowers awaken us to how we form our world with our thoughts, where we lose our focus, and how we scatter our energies. This group contains cards 30 -34.
Earth Flowers/Coins
Earth Flowers symbolize the material realm and relate to our physical bodies and the element of earth. The flat, often dense leaves can grow close to the earth and the flowers can be nurturing like the earth herself. They help ground those who lack earth in their make-up, or stimulate movement in those who have too much. This group contains cards 35 - 39.
Energy Cards
Energy cards are significators of change. They represent changes effected in one's personality or environment or in combinations of both of these. The degrees are synonymous with the angels or aspects used in astrology. Hard aspects refer to squares and oppositions, soft aspects to trines and sextiles. A conjunction can be experienced as hard or soft depending on the compatibility of the planets or the flowers involved. The flowers illustrated in the energy cards serve as symbols of change. This group contains cards 40 -44.
Guidance Cards
These cards represent guidance from the flowers. The parts of the flower speak to us from the ancient wisdom that weaves through each segment of its growth. Choosing one of these cards can help us tune into the area of our life where we can best get help. If any word from these cards seem to stand out for you, follow it with any personal associations or pictures that subsequently come up. Your inner teacher wil begin to use these clusterings to speak to you. Guidance can come in meditation, dreams, or life's events. This group contains the final cards in the deck which are not numbered.Creativity is encouraged with the cards . . . they offer inspirational guidance when one is willing to open his/her own life petals in preparation for the fulfillment of an enriching life in full bloom.
The cards measure 3" x 4-5/8." The LWB (Little White Book) is 43 pages in length. The book that can be separately purchased is entitled "The Flower Speaks" just like the card set. It contains 320 pages. I find the book to be very interesting and useful. Each card is presented first with a poem, followed by keywords and personal experiences of the author that relate to the card. The next section for each card contains symbolism, personal experiences, and information on flower essences.
The back of the Guidance cards are yellow with a white star in the center, containing a 7-spoked star inside of the white star . . . while the remaining cards of the deck are purple with a black 12-pointed star. Inside of that star, there are 24 "spokes" that radiate. This inner section looks somewhat like the old NBC-TV color broadcast logo.
