The "Power Animal Oracle" is a 44-card set with an accompanying 120-page guidebook that explains the nature and essence of each animal.  Each card features a specific animal with the name of that animal and a keyword at the top of the card above the animal image, and a brief message related to the theme of that animal at the bottom of the card.  The cards are bordered in yellow.  It's a very user friendly set of cards, certainly nothing scary or frightening when looking at images of nature's glorious animals.

The cards come in a boxed set with the guidebook.  It's packaged much like the works of Doreen Virtue.  And speaking of Doreen Virtue -- who is one of my favorite angel authors -- I did not realize that she and Steven Farmer (author of Power Animal Oracle Cards) are married.  On the back of the guidebook, some information is given about Steven Farmer, and this shows us that we can learn some interesting things by taking a moment to really read what's on the back of the box or a book!  The information from the back of the guidebook is as follows:

"This guidebook gives you instructions for conducting an accurate oracle-card reading for yourself and others.  It includes explanations of how to interpret each card's general meaning, and a channeled message from each of the 44 power animals represented.  Discover answers to important questions with the help of the animal spirits who communicate through these cards."

"Steven D. Farmer, Ph.D., is a licensed psychotherapist, shamanic practitioner, and ordained minister with more than 30 years of experience as a professional healer and teacher.  He's the author of Power Animals and Sacred Ceremony, as well as several other books and articles.  He makes his home in Laguna Beach, California, with his wife, Doreen Virtue."

From the back of the box, an explanation is provided about this work and what it's all about:  "Power Animals are spirit guides in animal form who provide protection, guidance, and healing.  This deck of 44 oracle cards by Steven Farmer will connect you with animal spirit guides who will advise you about any aspect of your life.  Whether you're a beginner or an experienced reader, the enclosed easy-to-follow guidebook provides instructions to help you immediately give accurate readings to yourself and others."

I wanted to see what Power Animal was with me, so I shuffled the card set in the peaceful silence of my work space, and I drew a card.  The Giraffe came up for me, which seems so fitting for where I am in life right now.  The Giraffe's keyword is "foresight," and the phrase at the bottom is "You are able to see what is in store for the future." The guidebook explains that no one can "predict" the future with any certainty, of course.  We know that life is fluid and changeable without a doubt.  But I found it interesting to see how the Giraffe spoke of my life work.  Additional keyword associations in the guidebook include "prophecy, divination, risk-taking, and gentleness."

I have always had a great affinity and respect for animals from the time I was very little, so working with animal oracles like this one is always a treat for me.  I can relate to thinking of nature's animals as spirit helpers or guides in my life.  For those of you who have pets, you probably are aware of what you can actually learn from these beloved creatures who are an important part of your world.  It seems appropriate to say that we can learn from the wisdom of animals.  Even though God put us at a higher level than the animals (in a similar way that the angels are at a higher level than we are as human beings), we can learn from them -- sometimes in a way that is an exchange of giving and receiving, especially with our pets.

The guidebook that comes with the cards is truly worthy of its name "guidebook."  A lot of guidance and useful information is contained in this 120-page booklet to help you connect with and understand the power animals featured in the cards.  It's a simple, yet very enlightening, system to work with!
