Enriched
with the wisdom of Native American teachings, the Sacred Path Cards are
an invaluable tool for spiritual growth. This card system and the
Medicine
Cards are both creations of Jamie Sams and are definitely favored oracles
for me in my personal use as well as my professional reading practice.
The Sacred Path cards are always able to reflect what is happening in my
life . . . and show me the way to successfully work through these things
and to embrace the blessings that surround me. They are very thought
provoking and inspiring. It's a remarkable tool for self-discovery
which draws upon the strength and beauty of Native American spiritual tradition.
It's not all about divination,
predictions, or forecasting with this tool. It's far more than that,
because the future holds the logical consequences of our actions or inactions
in the present. How we approach a situation from an emotional, mental,
or spiritual standpoint can influence what we will choose . . . and from
our choices, an outcome -- or our destiny -- is born. So it's important
to me to help my clients understand what is happening on a subconscious
and/or spiritual level so that they can successfully handle and master
the challenges and situations in front of them. That is the beauty
of what these cards can do! Jamie Sams' work is a real treasure to
me with these cards and with the Medicine Cards as well.
This Sacred Path Cards can
be used in tandem with the Medicine Cards if one desires. The guidebook
for each of these spiritual tools talks about how to do this, and the author
provides some spreads that can be used when combining these two beautiful
systems.
Each person encounters lessons
on his or path, and understanding those lessons is important to gain the
knowledge intended in that lesson . . . and to finally be ready to move
on to the next set of lessons that the Universe has in store. How
we approach situations, events, or challenges from our attitudes and perspectives
is also essential for successfully healing any conflicts in life, making
progress, overcoming fears, and finding inner peace. Empowerment
is self-mastery. One need not conquer life itself to gain self-mastery,
but learn and master the talents and abilities that allow life to be a
joyful and balanced experience. The teachings of these readings can
help to illuminate your personal journey as you get in touch with who you
are and what you're all about.
The Sacred Path cards contain
44 cards which measure 3" x 5-1/2". They are presented on a black
background with a thin orange border and an outside turquoise border.
Each card features a pelt or skin with a Native American symbol or scene.
The pelts vary in color from tans to gray shades. The number and
title of the card rests above the pelt. Numbering is in a light blue
shade with the name of the card in white. Beneath the pelt and the
image is an important keyword to represent the essence of that card's tone
and meaning. The book and cards are packaged in a sturdy, glossy-coated
box which holds the book and cards. The cards also have a small box
of their own that can be placed in the bigger box with the book.
The cards come with a 325-page
cloth hardbound companion book which explains how to use the cards, provides
a number of interesting layouts to work with, and thoroughly explains the
meaning, essence, and application of each card. There is also a workbook,
sold separately, that is a resource I like even better than the hardbound
back that comes with the cards. The Workbook is entitled "The Sacred Path
Workbook" and is also written by Jamie Sams. While the accompanying
guidebook offers much in terms of history surrounding the concepts of each
card, the workbook gets more to the point on how to apply the essence of
the card's energy into one's life. It highlights the attributes and
challenges of each card clearly. I find the workbook to be so easy
to understand and connect to. I don't say this to take away from
the value of the book that comes with the cards, because it is a very educational
and valuable reference in understanding the cards, the history, and the
tradition on a deeper level -- to glimpse into the history of the card's
meaning and application. However, I find the workbook's information
to be like an immediate and personal guide that explains things in easy-to-understand
language.
Both the guidebook and the
workbook contain card spreads and insight into the card meanings.
They both provide information on how to do readings when combining the
Sacred Path and the Medicine cards for a very informative, complete, and
enriching reading experience. Either deck can be used by itself or
in combination with the other.
I highly recommend the Sacred
Path Workbook for anyone who is interested in working with the Sacred Path
Cards. It has ample space to record your notes, document your progress,
and see emerging patterns from your work over time. The workbook
is an excellent tool to help you gain a clearer understanding of yourself
and your life path and to bring needed transformation into your life as
well. The workbook is divided into six sections: 1) Each card's
individual application; 2) New Spreads that are not included in the hardbound
book; 3) Using the cards to contact the Ancestors in Spirit; 4) Using the
Medicine Card Totems with the Sacred Path Cards; 5) Using the Sacred Path
Cards in combination with the Medicine cards to find deeper meaning toward
self-understanding (finding Your Path of Beauty); and 6) workbook pages
for personal journaling and progress in your work.
