Wisdom Cards
by Leita Richesson ©1998 U.S. Games Systems, Inc. The Shaman Wisdom cards are simple, but very nice in appearance. I really like the brown-red color tones used in the cards -- which the above images definitely do not do justice in portraying these cards. There was obviously much thought put into the creation of these cards. The cards were inspired by North American Indian tradition, legend, and life. The 65 cards of this deck can be used for one to develop his or her own medicine and power on their physical and emotional walk in this life journey. The cards measure 2-3/4" x 4-3/4" and are very easily to shuffle and handle. The cards are shiny, but not glossy-coated. The 65 cards are divided into 6 groups to depict the nature guides, objects, and direction that are an essential part of North American Shamanic practice. The six groups are as
follows:
The cards come with a LWB (little white booklet), but as most LWB's are, it leaves much to be desired when there is no accompanying guidebook to go with the cards. That is my quibble with this set of cards -- there is not a guidebook available for them other than the LWB! The creator of this deck had a great idea that, in my opinion, was seriously undermined by the lack of information for these cards. The LWB is 58 pages in length, and it does offer an interpretation of each card, written in first person. When it comes to spiritual oracles, I enjoy having much more to read than just information in a LWB. I think the cards could have been given justice if someone had written a book to go with them! I would not recommend these cards to anyone who is new in working with animal guides or Native American studies and tradition. There is simply not enough information for one to really get his or her feet wet sufficiently with this particular set of cards. The cards are likely to be of more value to anyone who does have some knowledge of shaman work, animal guides, and indian values and traditions. As complex as the concepts are for this deck, I just feel it deserved "more" -- such as a guidebook to go with it. The cards seem better suited for spiritual questions and practice rather than for purposes of divination or prediction.
